Hi, folks! Lots of familiar names here. I just joined and i wanted to bring folks up to date on what I've been doing. Publishing TIM CORRIGAN'S COMICS & STORIES every month like clockwork and just entered the 3rd year of non-stop publication. Sample $1.50, subs $15.00 for 12 issues. Glowing reviews all over the place. I'm putting everything I've got into this one title these days, re-working old stuff and writing and drawing lots of new stuff, especially MIGHTYGUY material. Living in the country, spending as much time fishing as possible, just built myself a new studio. Oldest son Nate's a senior in college, Matthew, age l6, has a paying gig providing political cartoons to the Buffalo Newspaper! All's well in Corriganville!

Hello SPL members...I just joined the group, and wanted to briefly introduce myself. My name is Doug, and I've been involved in small press publishing since 1993. I didn't even know such a network existed until my good friend and small press stalwart Jerry Smith brought me a stack of comics to read. At that moment, I WAS HOOKED!!
I don't have a large body of work in print, but I'm trying to remedy that. My earlier stuff was basically watered-down versions of superhero schtick, but now I'm finding my own voice(thru poetry as well as comics), and I hope to share that voice with you.
Initially, my "mission" upon entering the small press was to portray Black characters in non-stereotypical roles. I wanted to do Black characters who weren't angry at the world, and who didn't speak in "ghetto" jargon. I just don't like the way my people are showcased in popular culture, and I wanted desperately to do something different. It worked...for a short time, as my iconic-style superhero Noble, met with limited success among the superhero fans and creators in the small press. Time for a different direction.
At the moment, I am working on a sci-fi/humor strip called Newt Tronztarr with writer Eric Goodell, and it will be published as a b/w mini comic under our collaborative imprint ZeroTime Comix. I've also got some solo projects in the works as well, ranging from illustrated poetry to all-ages comics(one being a somewhat-urbanized retelling of Jack & the Beanstalk),and these projects will be published under my own Drawn by Doug Comics line.
I hope you'll stop by and say hi!

For three days (Friday through Sunday) my website (ComicRelated.com) took an in depth look at the recent Small Press and Alternative Comics Expo (aka S.P.A.C.E.) in Columbus, Ohio. Over the last 24 hours, we took all the coverage and reorganized it into a single 1-page making it easy for indie fans to check out what went on at the show.

-- Over 100 photos
-- Complete recaps of each day
-- A link section to many of the comics represented at the show
-- Wall to wall, start to finish event coverage

Indie artist and musician Michael Roden was a big part of the small press scene for over 30 years. His Thru Black Holes Comix published dozens of small press comics and zines. His artwork was featured in dozens of others as well. As you may know, Mike passed away in mid-2007 after battling colon cancer for several months. Unfortunately, he left behind substantial medical bills.

Jim Main of Main Enterprises, has enlisted these artists to help:
Tom Brinkmann
Brad W. Foster
Jeff Gaither
Richard Krauss
Andy Nukes
Bill Shut
Floyd Sumner
Dan W. Taylor

Together, they've produced the Michael Roden Benefit Portfolio. It features black-and-white, 8.5" x 11" prints, inspired by Roden's work, by each of the artists. Plus it includes a special piece originally intended as the centerspread for Roden's unpublished final zine: Pirate Adventures. Sale proceeds will go toward the Roden Benefit Fund.

For more information on Michael Roden and previews from the portfolio visit Midnight Fiction. This is a great opportunity to own a beautiful collection of prints and contribute to paying off the remaining medical expenses of a small press icon. To order contact Jim Main through his Main Enterprises Store.

I was only at one two years ago and it was a pretty mainstream oriented show. Some independent stuff like Mouse Guard or whatever, but not really a place for mini comics if that's what you're thinking.

To all you MoCCA alum, is there a place to leave out flyers and/or free pubs for visitors?

Also, anyone have a ballpark guess as to how many copies of a pub I would go through if I was to hand them out to cool prospective members?

Thanks in advance!
